Mabon is considered a time of the Mysteries. It is a time to honour Ageing Deities and the Spirit World. Considered a time of balance, it is when we stop and relax and enjoy the fruits of our personal harvests, whether they be from toiling in our gardens, working at our jobs, raising our families, or just coping with everyday life. Take time out to look at your life and reassess where you are going, what you have so far achieved and what it is that you are still seeking.
As the autumn winds start to cool the sultry summer heat and the Green Man prepares the final feast of the year before retiring into the cool hands of winter so will we, the children of the old one's who are called Witches, Wiccans, Druids, Magicians, Shamans and Pagans celebrate with a gathering under the Mabon moon to build and burn "The Wicker Man".

Banish Bad Habits Spell
To work on bad habits, gather any combination or amount of obsidian, black onyx, hematite, or smoky quartz. Also gather a piece of cloth, some black ribbon or string, a bowl of water, and some paper and water-soluble ink. Set up the container, and place your selection of stones around it. Think of a bad habit youd like to be rid of, and write the habit on a slip of paper. Place the paper in the water, visualising your bad habit ending. Allow the water to dissolve the ink completely from the paper. Bury the paper in the ground, pour the water over the paper, and cover with dirt. Then, collect the stones and wrap
them in a piece of cloth. Carry them with you for strength.

Rowan and Red Thread Spell
An old Scottish saying goes: Rowan tree and red thread, put the Witches to their speed. Witches in this case refers to malevolent magic-workers who would do harm to people.
The Rowan trees have small red berries on them in the fall. The Rowan berry shows a five-pointed stara pentagramwhich is an ancient protection symbol and a modern symbol of Witchcraft.
Traditionally, pieces of the Rowan tree were carried for protection. Women would wear a neck-lace made of Rowan berries strung on red thread. A protective amulet can be made from two Rowan twigs tied into a cross with red wool or thread.

Mabon Spell of Balance
Try this simple spell to bring balance to your heart and home. First, peel an apple in a continuous piece, making the peeling as long as you can, then set aside the peeling. Now fill the palm of your hand with dried thyme, a balancing and purifying herb. Slowly breathe in its fresh, pungent scent. As you exhale, say your name and the names of all the people and creatures who share your home with you.
Next, close your eyes and repeat the following charm:
"Heart, mind, hands, soul, Balance, open, loving, whole. For the good of all, so mote it be."
Now take the piece of apple peel and sprinkle the moist side with the thyme, rolling up the peel as you go. Tie the resulting bundle with string and bake in a warm (250 degrees F) oven for an hour or so. The fragrance of the baking apple and thyme will help bring well-being and balance to your home and to all who live there. Once dried, the bundle can be kept to hold in your hand whenever you need a little more balance-and, if you like, you can enjoy munching the peeled apple, too!
